5 Things to Do in The Spring for Your Home
Spring is the time of year when a lot of people often decide it’s time to declutter. As a real estate agent in Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties, I see a lot of spring-cleaning projects while I’m out and about. After months of hunkering down for the cold months, shedding the excess is top of mind for most homeowners. With that in mind, I’ve kept my eyes open as I am in and out of homes for sale in Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia Counties.
Here are 5 things to do in the Spring for your home that will help freshen up your look and get you ready for the warmer months.
- Clean out garden beds and problem areas. Winter months are prime time for things like sticks, weeds, and debris to gather in the areas most homeowners neglect due to colder weather. So, clean out under your bushes or in that corner where the wind always seems to blow everything towards. Trim the old, dead growth off plants. This will give your property an immediate facelift.
- Clean your gutters. As the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” Well, clearing your gutters of all the leaves that have collected there over the winter will allow for all that rainwater to run freely through your gutters to your downspouts and onto your plants, just like the system was designed to do.
- Have your air conditioning unit checked. After a few months of inactivity your air conditioning unit may have developed some issues. At worst, a good cleaning will help optimize your system’s performance for the season to come. Contact a licensed professional to have them inspect the unit and make any fixes now. This way, when the weather gets hot you can be confident the unit won’t fail and leave you sweaty and in a bind.
- Prepare for pests. Humans aren’t the only ones who enjoy warmer weather. Ants, termites, and other pests start peeking their heads out as the temps rise, too. Go over your property and seal up any openings that might be good entryways for them to come inside. That includes cracks in your baseboards, openings in your window frames, separation around pipes and sinks, and other areas.
- Freshen up your windows. Not all home improvements have to be about fixing this or updating that. Some can be for you! Warmer weather means you will probably want to open the windows. Give them a good cleaning now and some fresh decor, this way when the sun and the warm breeze comes through you can enjoy it without having to think about the dirty windows.
Now that you refreshed your home, it may be time to refresh your mind. Take a walk in Tyler State Park, visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art and check out the Kabuki prints from Japan, or just take in a show at the Keswick Theater.
